In the last couple weeks, we have received several support inquiries from people who can’t get VIPM to connect to LabVIEW 8.6.1 (immediately after upgrading from 8.6).
In each case the user’s “VI Server: Exported VIs” settings (in the Tools>>Options dialog) had been changed, somehow.
This setting should have a value of “*” set to “Allow access”, as shown below:

We’ve created a special FAQ entry for this issue, here:
We’re not really sure why this is happening and it doesn’t seem to happen to everyone — it appears to be something in the LabVIEW 8.6.1 installer. We’ll keep looking into it.
Meanwhile, if you’re having trouble getting VIPM to work with LabVIEW 8.6.1, please let us know in our forums.

Jim,
The problem your customers are seeing is due to a bug in the installer for the LabVIEW Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit as mentioned in this NI Knowledgebase entry:
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/75D823EF2C4EBEC086257554005767A2?OpenDocument
It isn’t happening to everyone because not everyone is installing the toolkit. The installer on the LabVIEW 8.6.1 Platform DVD and the Q1 Developer Suite DVD has the bug. We have posted a fixed version to the web for people who download it. And that fixed version will be in the Q2 Developer Suite DVD and obviously we are going to have the fix in the next LabVIEW Platform Release.
Kennon
Hi Kennon,
Thanks for the information. This is really helpful. Fortunately, it doesn’t affect all users who upgrade to 8.6.1.
